Riviera Maya Jazz Festival 2019. Playa del Carmen in perfect harmony

November, 2019

For those in the area looking for exceptional cultural events, the turn of December generally marks the annual return of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival 2019 in Playa del Carmen. And as part of this year’s offering, attendees will get also to enjoy the familiar beats of the British group, UB40, who recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. What’s more, although this popular event has been going for more than 16 years, entry is still amazingly free.

Sing along with famous bands like UB40, Orleans Avenue & Chucho Valdes during this music festival

Recent years’ headliners have included Norah Jones, Bobby McFerrin, and Chick Corea, continuing to firmly establish this jazz music festival as the most talked-about thing to do in Playa del Carmen, as well as being a solid reason why fans of such genre descend upon the Riviera Maya at this particular time of the year. After all, it’s hard to think of a better way to enjoy the sun-kissed sand and turquoise waters of Mamitas Beach, than by listening to the chilled out strains of “Don’t Worry Be Happy.” Or “Come Away With Me.”

During this music festival, evening time at Playa Mamitas brings with it a sea of couples, families, and groups of friends, from near and far, all ready to settle into the sand and enjoy what is now the epitome of the perfect evening. Whether they are backpackers touring the continent, locals in search of some great music, or mom, dad and kids enjoying an alternative night out during their all-inclusive family vacations, many come armed with rugs to cuddle up on or comfy-looking beach chairs, and most come prepared with evening snacks and their bevy of choice.

Enjoy the perfect evening at Mamitas Beach while taking in the relaxing vibes of this Jazz Festival

The dates of the Jazz Fest 2019 run from Friday, Nov. 29 to Sunday, Dec. 1 with different artists headlining each night. Apart from the anticipated closing performance by UB40 on Sunday night, spectators can get an all-round experience with the sounds of six-time Grammy award-winner, Chucho Valdes (Friday night) and the energy of the beloved Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue (Saturday night), along with a host of other popular jazz musicians.

The beach club is a couple of short blocks from the renowned Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue). A pleasant afternoon stroll or a short ride from a number of laid-back all-inclusive resorts in Playa del Carmen is all that lies between you and this equally laid-back and thoroughly feel-good music event, which kicks off nightly at 7:00 p.m. However, in order to be able to choose your favorite spot, be sure to make your way there early. There are definitely worse things to do than enjoy an extra hour or so perched on powdery-white sands.

Put simply, all that’s left for you to do is to grab your favorite nibbles and wine, make yourselves comfortable, and soak up the wholesome ambiance of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, under a perfect ceiling of Caribbean stars.

Our home in Playa del Carmen

My wife and I love staying here when it is just the two of us. The staff is top notch and the food is always great. They are working to update a few areas and this is all for the better. It is very close to Fifth Avenue if you want to go shopping. Bocellis is the place to go for Italian food and wine.

6th Annual Trip - Excellent with Some Bumps

This was our sixth annual trip to Playacar Palace and this year we cranked it up to a full two weeks. This is a small resort by the standards of many others in this region, but owing to its location in Playa del Carmen and close proximity to the bustling Fifth Avenue, we never feel hemmed in or bored.

A little short of expectations

First off I’d say we had an excellent vacation. That being said THIS IS NOT A 5 STAR RESORT! Only 2 restaurants, plus a buffet that couldn’t possible stay in business for a week if it were free standing. Service is excellent throughout the resort, special mention to Grisell in the spa, she gave me the most fantastic massage I’ve ever had.
